There are three Sailing School Vessel programs offered onboard for tuition:

  • Trainees in Niagara's HeadrigYou can sail onboard as a daysail student on a one-day sailing excursion, which is a brief introduction to square-rig seafaring and Niagara’s history.
  • You can join the ship as a trainee for an extensive three-week experience and actively sail and work the ship under the tutiledge of the professional crew.
  • Or, if you have prior square-rig experience, you can come onboard as an apprentice for the duration of the sailing season.

The US Brig Niagara is inspected by the Unites States Coast Guard as a Sailing School Vessel, and as such is prohibited from carrying passengers for hire. The US Federal Regulations for Sailing School Vessels are different than those for Passenger Vessels.Sailing School Vessels adhere to different design, construction, and safety standards than do Passenger Vessels. Sailing School Trainers learn a sailing related curriculum while on board, and are active participants in the working and sailing of the vessel. Safety training is a key component to all sailing programs offerred onboard, and we aim to exceed the standards of the marine industry in this area.
