Foremast to be replaced after 18 years in service!

Posted on September 26, 2008. Filed under: Captain's Logs, This Month on Niagara |

On Saturday, September 19th, we removed the foremast, which is scheduled for replacement this winter. The crew will be working daily from Tuesdays through Saturdays this 2008 Foremast Removal Crewwinter in the basement of the Erie Maritime Museum on the construction of the new standing rigging for the new mast.

The new mast was made several years ago in anticipation of this project. After detecting a small amount of rot, the decision was made this summer to replace the mast now.

Is that Goldie with the crutch? I can identify several of those in the photo but not all.

Jeff H.

Yes, that is Goldie with a crutch. He had a little bit of rope burn on one of his feet.
